Hertfordshire Young Carers Project

So....what is the Young Carers Council?

We are a group of young carers who meet regularly to make decisions that help ALL young carers in Hertfordshire on a range of different issues.

Meet the members of the Young Carers Council:

Dani, age 15

"I've been a Young Carer since I was 11, I joined the Young Carers Project when I was 13 and have been Chair for about 6 months.
I look after my Mum who has depression.  My older sister Claire (19) helps when she isn't at work.   I've been on many trips with the Project and they always give great support when needed."

Steffan, age 14

"I look after my Mum who has Hemiplegic Migraine.  My brother and sister used to also belong to the Young Carers Project and appear in one of the promotional videos."

Ellie

"I care for my Mum who has MS and is in a wheelchair and is an alcoholic.
I want to join the Young Carers Council because I want to give back to other young carers what they have given to me and I understand what it is like to be a young carer so I can help others."

Jevan, age 14

"I care for my little brother (10) because my older brother (16) has got Aspergers which makes life very hard for me as I have to do all the chores around the house.
I joined the Young Carers Council because I wanted to make sure carers get the support they need."

  Rhiannon, age 13

"I help my parents to look after my 15 year old sister who has Downs Syndrome and is also deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other.
I feel that siblings and children of disabled people need a voice and I would like to be that voice as part of the Young Carers Council."

Rebecca, age 15

"I care for my sister Sophie who has Downs Syndrome.
When I was asked if I would be interested in joining the Young Carers Council I said yes straight away because I like to have my ideas heard and wanted to help make a difference."

Eloise, age 17

"I care for my younger sister who has ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome.
I joined the Young Carers Council because I wanted to help raise awareness for young carers."
